What is HERO AWARD about?
The Big Groove is part of the SHINE! Youth Festival organised by the National Youth Council, supported by MCYS. It is an annual Asia Hip Hop Festival organised by O School Ltd.
A 5-day-festival that prides itself on celebrating and “RAISING THE STANDARD” of dance in the region, TBG has consistently brought in the best talents from the region for workshops and showcases, “RAISING THE STANDARD” higher every year.
Since its inception in 2006, TBG has featured the best dance crews from all over the world, from the United States to Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia and Hong Kong, including prominent crews such as Quest Crew (USA), Beat Freakz (USA), and Wrecking Crew Orchestra (Japan).
The ‘HERO Award” was first launched in 2011, to recognise an individual or group who had effectively used dance to fulfill a social cause, for the betterment of society.

Year 2011 Awardee - Stephanie Phua
In under three months, Stephanie Phua - a student from the Nanyang Technological University - harnessed the power of social media to stage a successful fundraising concert, Dance For Japan, in response to the March 11 2011 Tsunami, raising $22,124.81 to aid the survivors in Japan.
